IS THE MINIATURE SCHNAUZER RIGHT FOR ME?

Miniature schnauzers are active, alert, and make loving companions, they are big dogs in a small package. They are house dogs who love the outdoors where they can romp and explore checking every new thing out, curious can best sum it up. They want to be a part of the family joining in on all family events and then lay in your lap or near your feed at the end of the day. Schnauzers do not shed and are considered to be a non-allergic breed. They do need to be brushed and groomed regularly.

Attend a dog show, visit with Schnauzer breeders and people who own them to see if they will fit into your family and home. Schnauzers as a general rule are long lived, living 12 – 15 years, so you will be taking on the responsibility of this dog for a long time, so you must be sure a Miniature Schnauzer is for you and your family.

WHERE TO FIND A REPUTABLE BREEDER and YOUR PUPPY

Again attend a dog show, talk to other schnauzer owners, check out the American Miniature Schnauzer Club’s website for breeder referrals, http://www.amsc.us or http://www.akc.org the American Kennel Club for lists of Reputable Breeders. Go to my Links Page for local Dog Clubs.

What is a “Reputable Breeder”

A Reputable Breeder….

  • Screens their dogs for genetic problems. They should be able to tell  you about the genetic problems in the breed and show proof that     the parents of the litter are free of those problems.
  • Breeds to advance their breeding program and for their love and devotion of the Miniature Schnauzer.
  • Will explain the good points as well as the bad points of the breed.
  • They want to make sure you are fully aware of what to expect before you buy a puppy.
  • Will provide you with a pedigree of the puppy, not just a copy of the parents registration papers. A pedigree usually has at least three generations of the puppies’ ancestors listed.
